Required as legal proof of death, to settle the estate of the deceased and to apply for pension and insurance benefits, British Columbia death certificates can be ordered by proceeding to step 1 below.

No more than two of each version of certificate will be issued by the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency.

Who Can Apply For a BC Death Certificate With This Application?

This site is available for use by the legal profession and general public to obtain British Columbia Government approved and official certificates of death issued by the government agency as an independent authorized agent.

Death certificates in BC may be released to any person with a valid reason.

Fees & Processing Times

Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cheque or money order – Please make cheque or money order payable to “ExpressLegal”

Certificates ordered with regular service average 15 business days to be processed and delivered.

Certificates ordered with rush service average 5 to 8 business days to be processed and delivered. Applications processed using the rush service are processed within 48 hours and mailed (not couriered).

Service times listed above are approximations and are not guaranteed. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will significantly delay processing time.

  1. Death Certificate – $80.00 each
  2. Rush Service – $38.00 additional courier cost (includes multiple certificates)

Fees include all taxes, search, shipping and processing charges.

If no record of the death is found by British Columbia Vital Statistics, fees will be applied to the search cost and will not be refunded.

All death certificates in BC are mailed directly from British Columbia Vital Statistics.

British Columbia Death Certificate

Contains the individual’s full name, gender, date of death, place of death, place of birth, resident province, state or country, registration number, and date of registration. The certificate is 21.6 x 17.8 cm.
