British Columbia Marriage Certificates | Government Issued

Welcome to the British Columbia marriage certificate application page of VitalCertificates.ca.

Required as proof of a legal marriage, to ensure the rights of spouses and children are respected, to apply for certain social benefits, to settle an estate and to change or hyphenate a surname, British Columbia marriage certificates can be ordered by proceeding to step 1 below.

No more than two of each version of certificate will be issued by the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency.

Who Can Apply For a Marriage Certificate in BC With This Application?

This site is available for use by the legal profession and general public to obtain British Columbia Government approved and official certificates of birth issued by the government agency as an independent authorized agent.

Marriage certificates in BC may be released to:

Fees & Processing Times

Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cheque or money order – Please make cheque or money order payable to “ExpressLegal”.

Certificates ordered with regular service average 15 business days to be processed and delivered.

Certificates ordered with rush service average 5 to 8 business days to be processed and delivered. Applications processed using the rush service are processed within 48 hours and mailed (not couriered).

Service times listed are approximations and are not guaranteed. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will significantly delay processing time.

  1. BC Marriage Certificate – $90.00 each
  2. BC Certified Photocopy of Marriage Registration – $100.00 each
  3. Rush Service – $38.00 additional processing cost (includes multiple certificates)

Fees include all taxes, search, shipping and processing charges.

If no record of the marriage is found by British Columbia Vital Statistics, fees will be applied to the search cost and will not be refunded.

All marriage certificates in BC are mailed directly from the British Columbia Vital Statistics.

BC Marriage – Small Certificate

Contains the full names of the couple or individuals, place of marriage, date of marriage, registration number and date of registration. The small certificate is 9.5 x 6.4 cm.

BC Marriage – Large Certificate

Contains the full names of the couple or individuals, their birthdates and birthplaces, date of marriage, place of marriage, registration number, and date of registration. The large certificate is 21.6 x 17.8 cm.

BC Certified Copy of Marriage Registration

This a photocopy of the actual marriage registration as filled in by the married couple. It is legally the most complete document. The photocopy is certified as true copy of the original.

NOTE: Certified copies are rarely needed by citizens and are, by law, for restricted use only. They are generally only required for court or consulate purposes. They are not recommended for use as identification purposes.
