Nunavut Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates

Birth, marriage or death certificates are only available from the Nunavut Department of Health and Social Services if the event occurred in Nunavut on or after April 1, 1999. Please visit Northwest Territories for births, marriages or deaths that occurred prior to April 1, 1999.

Application Status

The Nunavut Department of Health and Social Services is currently taking 3 to 4 weeks to process and mail birth, marriage and death certificates. Certificates ordered on a rush basis are currently taking 10 to 15 business days.

If you have not received your ordered birth, marriage or death certificate within the time expected, please call toll-free at 1-800-661-0833 or 867-645-8001.

Delivery Time & Payment Methods

This site is available for use by the public and legal profession to obtain Nunavut Government approved and official certificates of birth, marriage or death issued by the government agency as an independent authorized agent.

Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cheque or money order – Please make cheque or money order payable to “ExpressLegal”.

All Nunavut vital certificates are $60.00 each and include all taxes, search, shipping and processing charges. Average delivery time for regular service is 3 to 4 weeks.

Priority (Rush) service is available for an additional $60.00 (includes multiple certificates). Average delivery time for certificates ordered with the rush service is 10 to 15 business days.

If no record of the birth is found by Nunavut Vital Statistics, fees will be applied to the search cost and will not be refunded.

Lost and Found

If your birth certificate or any other government-issued document is lost or stolen contact the issuing authority immediately so the document can be cancelled.
